Hospitals with Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM)

Having a midwife rather than a OB/GYN for your care makes so much more sense

An OB/GYN is a trained surgeon/pathologist that when things are normal (which they usually are) they aren’t excited about.

Which then leads to unnecessary interventions, procedures etc.

A midwife will be with you through labor, deliver and post partum hospital stay, where an OB/GYN will only be there when baby is crowning or about to be born and then leaves.  There are instances where nurses have held baby’s head in, or tried to push baby back in so that the doctor could arrive to ‘catch’ the baby.

Thankfully we have 3 hospitals on O`ahu that currently have midwives caring for patients they are:

Tripler Army Medical Center- http://www.yourmilitaryinhawaii.com/pdf/MedicalDental.pdf; 433-6661

Kalihi-Palama Health Center- http://www.kphc.org/womens-health/ ; 848-1438

Castle Medical Center- http://www.castlemed.com/ ; here’s a great article (look on the last page for birth center tours etc) : http://www.castlemed.com/PDFs/WindwardHealth_08-3_Summer.pdf ; 263-5400

On the Big Island there is the Hawai`i Community Hospital- http://www.northhawaiicommunityhospital.org/staff/show_speciality.php?speciality=CNM
